Restaurants

Every conceivable cuisine in every conceivable location – that’s the Wine and Food Capital of South Africa dining experience.

There are more than 80 restaurants offering the most basic dishes to over-the-top and 5-star dining experiences, set both in the town and on many of the wine farms.

Some lie snuggled amid vineyards and atop a hill, while others are perched 300m above sea-level with panoramic views over False Bay and Table Mountain.

A special aura abounds within restaurants housed in Cape Dutch buildings, while those with ultra-modern interiors reflect the diversity that is dining in Stellenbosch.

In this historic haven, business hub and student town, restaurants have to cater for the casual diner to the most discerning epicurean – and they do it well. Fine dining restaurants, laid-back bistros, coffee shops, sidewalk cafés and fast food outlets abound and offer traditional Cape cuisine and South African specialities, to the most exotic international cuisine.

Stellenbosch restaurants were once again awarded Top 10 status in the Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards. Featured national Top 10 winners 2013 are, Rust en Vrede on Rust en Vrede Estate, Jordan Restaurant on Jordan Estate, Overture at Hidden Valley and Camphors at Vergelegen.

Towerbosch at Knorhoek was awarded Best Country-style Restaurant. Rust en Vrede also achieved both Service Excellence and Wine Service (Joakim Hansi Blackadder) awards.

Stellenbosch lies ensconced in the Jonkershoek Valley and is surrounded by towering mountains and vineyards, making any dining experience memorable.

But dining is not limited to indoors – enjoy al fresco dining, or a picnic in town or on a wine farm.

For a true cultural dining experience, visit our friendly township, Kayamandi, with its colourful informal eateries, or stay overnight at one of the Homestays and join in the cooking fun with a local family!
